WORDS THAT MEAN SOMETHING

Lyrics and music have always been a part of my life. I was raised around a phonograph, then 8-tracks, cassettes, and now cds. Radio has also been a part of my growing experience. My music background covers all areas from classical to heavy metal. I've sang country to classical, from Mozart to Aerosmith and one thing has always been true to me. The music and the words combined mean something to me on a personal level, and they move me.

Somewhere along the line the words were overtaken by the music. It seems like today, as long as the beat is there it doesn't matter what the words are, BABY, BABY comes to mind. This became very real to me last night watching American Idol. when their special guest female singer appeared. She sang and moved singing about things that should be done privately in your own home not displayed on T.V. for children to see.

What happened to words that meant something. Songs that told stories, songs that make you want to sing along. I've personally have stopped people and asked them what the words are to the music they are listening to means. Some have no clue, and others didn't know there was supposed to be a meaning.

Aerosmith, C.C.R., Heart, Styxx, all sang words that meant something even if their music overpowered it at times. People still buy up Beatles albums, Frank Sinatra albums, Led Zeppelin albums, The Eagles because words mean something, their words and music will last far beyond our current age.

Christian music also falls into this category of music with lyrics that mean something. Amazing Grace has touched many lives. Groups like The Imperials, The Jordonaires, D.C.Talk, Third Day , and many more know that the words are what changes peoples lives.

I'm not against any kind of music, just, please let the words mean something. Tell me something, teach me something. Kill Me Softly With Your Song!!
